The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup competition.

The quadrennial international men's football championship is contested by the senior national teams of FIFA member associations. It is scheduled to be held in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022. This will be the first World Cup in the Arab world, Korea and Japan. The field will increase to 48 teams for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Due to Qatar's intense summer heat, this World Cup will be held from late November to mid-December, 
the first tournament not to be held in May, June or July, and to be held in the northern autumn; It will be
 played in less than 29 days time frame. The opening match will be contested between Qatar and
 Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. The final is scheduled to take place on 18 December 2022, 
which is also Qatar's national day. Current World Cup champions France.
